Investigating the Usefulness of a Viral Links Wagon

Be Your Own Detective ...the online business

I finally got the website up: http://beyourowndetective.net

It is touted as: the right place to start your own online investigation. Whether you are just trying to locate someone or you need to conduct your own background investigation, this is the right place. Use the same tools private investigators use to locate people check out your date, do a nanny background check, verify someone's identity, check arrest records, check criminal records, check court records like bankruptcies, divorces, and legal judgments. Get sex offender reports, birth records, DWI and DUI records. Find information like property records, business filings and more!...I have a few "sister sites" too. It looks good so far, but it still has a ways to go. One of the things I am excited about, is the fact that you have instant access to searching state records of each state in the US. Now, I am just waiting on indexing. I can't wait for it to show up in the search engines.

Finding Sex Offenders Near You

Anyone should be able to run a sex offender check and be notified when they move in near you.

Do you know where your neighborhood’s sex offenders are?
Thanks to a new e-mail notification system, residents of unincorporated Monterey County can know instantly when a released sex offender has moved into their community.

On Monday afternoon, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office unveiled its “OffenderWatch” online database at 1414 Natividad Road in Salinas.

Similar to the information provided under Megan’s Law, which has provided online data on request about sex offenders in California cities since 2004, the new system provides details on sex offenders living in unincorporated areas of the county.

But the Web site has one key difference compared with Megan’s Law, Kanalakis said: instant notification via e-mail whenever a registered sex offender moves within a one-mile radius of the address entered on the site. Residents can enter schools, day cares and work sites as well as their home addresses.

“Any person can sign up for this free e-mail notification system,” said Sheriff Mike Kanalakis at the event. “You’re going to get information pretty much at lightning speed whenever a sex offender registers.”

But of the 600 to 700 registered sex offenders residing within the county, he said, only 92 currently live in unincorporated areas and are covered by the Web site.
Kanalakis said the automatic monitoring system, which is used by a number of law enforcement agencies nationwide, provides information including a physical description, photo and a map of an approximate location of the offender’s home.

Other tools available on the Web site include safety tips for residents living near a sex offender, signs to watch out for in a sexual predator and downloadable information which can be shared within community-based groups.

The Sheriff’s Web site emphasizes, however, that the information provided is for awareness purposes only and not for taking action against offenders. Anyone who suspects such an offender of suspicious or illegal activity is urged to report all such information directly to Sheriff’s deputies.

Work on New E-Course

I have begun work on a new e-course. It is in it's infancy. It will be how to be your own detective and will focus on online investigations. I will soon offer the course for free once I have the first 4 lessons completed. The first part written is about investigation and following leads. We will see where that goes.

The Web Investigator is a great all in one tool so you can be your own detective. It has the most comprehensive search choices I have seen one the internet. Now I know you can search many public records for free on the internet, the problem is, you have to do a one by one search and you have to know where to search. Let's say you are looking for someone who lived in Texas last year. You can Search all sorts of Texas stuff. The problem is, if you didn't know that he lived in Oregon 5 years ago, you would not know to search there. The Web Investigator searches ALL Over.

Reverse Cell Phone Lookup Scams

There are a lot of scams out there today, yes, even reverse cell phone lookup scams. Lets look at some of them.

First if they say they do it for free...it is a lie. I have never seen a free cell phone lookup. Yeah, it is free to search, just not free to get a report. As a matter of fact they give you basically the same report as the phone validator (I will go into that one later). So if it says Free - Don't believe it. Just search here on my thingy - to find the name will cost you, but hey, I am telling you up front it will.

What I found in searching 20+ sites, is they all lead to three regular pay sites. I don't think the pay site folks are scamming you, I think that people come up with phony "landing pages" to get you to a pay site. I say don't give those kinds of people your business, after all they got you there under false pretenses.

Then there was this place for $6.95. Way too cheap. I tried 3 good phone numbers - guess what - none of them worked. It seems that you need to pay for quality look up services.

If you find a free one that really works, let me know.

The old saying, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. That is true for this scam.

Just use the Reverse Phone Detective. It works.

Direct Cell Phone Search

OK, so you 'know' someone has cell phone but you don't know their number. Guess what? Yes, there is a way. All you have to do is go to the National Cell Phone Registry. The registry has a way to search for cell phones.

See no one is safe any more ;)

Reverse Phone Lookups

So you want to be your own detective? Why is that? Is it because of curiosity or suspicion? What is motivating you? If you plan on using investigation techniques to get back at someone or to harass someone, or maybe worse, then GO AWAY! For those of you that have legitimate reasons, welcome.

I will cover all sorts of things investigative. I won't make you a licensed investigator, but I hope to give you some decent tips.

First, I will compare reverse phone lookups:

There are three that all work well, and it is simply a matter of your preference. Many others out on the net are totally worthless.

The best in my opinion is the Reverse Phone Detective. After 100's of checks it proved basically
98% effective with reverse cell phone lookups and 97% effective on unlisted numbers. It is fast and accurate. The best part is - no information available, no charge!

A close second in my opinion is Reverse Mobile. It gives you good fast reports too. After hundreds of checks it proved about 79% effective. The price is the same for premium service which I highly recommend. It means unlimited searches for a year.

The next best, and about as effective as the others is the Reverse Genie. Reverse Genie has other reverse lookups (a real plus) but was just slightly less effective as the others purely on cell phone reverse lookups. If you expect to do all sorts of reverse lookups, perhaps Reverse Genie would serve you best.

Just a few years ago, as an Investigator, I did not have all of this instant information available, and a warrant had to be issued, etc. Now, you can do it on your own.
